Job Description/RequirementsJob Type:Fixed Term Contract Full TimeLocation:NairobiReportingto the Principal Counselor, the successful candidate will beresponsible for the provision of emotional and professional growth ofstudents, developing and monitoring counseling support programs, andproviding career coaching programs to the USIU -Africa Community.Key Responsibilities:Provideindividual, couple and family counseling and psychotherapy to theMastercard Foundation Scholars and USIU-Africa community to enable themmanage their problems and optimally function so that they can meet theireducational and life goals.Facilitate group counseling and or support groups to enhance learning and support from other students.Awarenesscampaigns on HIV and AIDS, Alcohol and drug abuse, sexual andreproductive among others which includes planning, organizing,implementing, evaluation and reporting on awareness programs andactivities.Crisis interventionin the event of a crisis through provision of defusing, debriefing, andtrauma counseling either individually or in groups geared towardsrestoration of healthy psychological, cognitive and social functioning.Research,design, develop and disseminate information/educational and publicitymaterials (notice board campaigns, posters, brochures, e-mail messages)that create awareness, guide the prevention and management of emergingand contextual issues likely to impact negatively on students, e.g.HIV/AIDS, drug and substance abuse, stress, relationships among othersand promote mental health.StrengthenScholars’ life skills through psycho-education, planning andfacilitating training on life skills, consulting with various studentgroups, clubs and sport teams, student leaders for development of lifeskills and leadership skills.Networking:Maintain a wide range of mental health contacts to facilitateappropriate referrals for Scholars needing specialized treatment andcare and consultation. Internally liaise with other sectors in theAcademic and student affairs division, and the academic schools foreffective referrals and consultations and send informative reports thatenhance informed decision making for referred students (disciplinary andacademic probation or dismissal cases among others).Recordkeeping /database management- Prepare comprehensive professionalclinical notes on client (Scholars) progress for ongoing care andreference.Reports: Preparecomprehensive semester counseling and events reports and forward them tothe Principal Counselor for purposes of planning and decision making.Attendregular continuing education, case conferences and supervision with anexternal counselor supervisor to ensure and maintain highest standardsfor professionalism and service delivery.Planand organize for Peer Counselors and Educators trainings, train andsupervise peer counselors and educators to enhance awareness ofHIV/AIDS, Alcohol and drug abuse among other issues in the community.Technology:be able to utilize available technology to maximize efficiency andeffectiveness in the delivery of services, programs and publicity.Conduct needs and impact /client satisfaction surveys.Performs additional job-related duties and responsibilities as requested.Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional ExperienceEducational qualifications: Masters degree in Counseling/Clinical Psychology from a recognized educational institution.ProfessionalQualifications: Membership to a Professional Association nationally andinternationally; NASCOP VCT certification for HIV Testing.Served as senior counseling Officer for a minimum of 3 years.Proficiency in computer applications.Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.Personal Attributes & CompetenciesShown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.Confidentiality and integrity.Proficiency in computer applications.Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.Relationship builder & effective negotiator.Good communication skills.Self-motivated.Attention to detail.Adaptability and reliability.Ifyou have the requisite qualifications and experience and desire to workas a team member in a modern, progressive, international andmulticultural institution where you can make a difference, please apply.Interested applicants must indicate on the subject line of their emailaddress the position they are applying for, provide current CVs,copiesof educational certificates and transcripts, names and addresses ofthree referees, current salary and benefits, telephone and e-mailcontacts to the address below by:Friday, June 18, 2021Director of Administration,United States International University - Africa,P.
