Job Description/RequirementsThe Society is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the following position:Position Title:Medical OfficerReporting to:Medical Officer In-ChargeJob Location:DadaabPURPOSE:Responsibleto the Medical Officer In Charge, the medical officer is a GeneralPractitioner, appropriately qualified and registered medicalprofessional with knowledge and skills to provide personal, family andcommunity orientated comprehensive primary and secondary health careservices to individuals. MO is responsible for providingpatient-centred, culturally appropriate, and individual holistic care toa defined population.Key ResponsibilitiesReviewprogram activities and priorities on a regular basis updating theMedical Officer – In Charge on gaps and/or provide recommendations onhow to improve quality of servicesAttendto urgent medical services including resuscitation, stabilization andassessment and diagnosis, treatment and referral as necessaryAssess the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history taking, examination and investigation.Recommendingand, where appropriate, undertaking treatment options and carryingout/referring for appropriate interventions and procedures, includingbut not limited to prescribing, minor surgery and other general practiceprocedures, counseling, psychological interventions, advising andeducation.Providetimely clinical and culturally appropriate health services throughappropriate evidence based screening, risk assessment and earlydetection of illness, disease and disability.Working with public health providers in the prevention and control of communicable diseases for individuals and families.Provideongoing care and support for people with chronic and terminalconditions to reduce deterioration, increase independence and reducesuffering linking, where relevant, with appropriate service providers.Complywith established health and safety policies with regard to handling ofinstruments, storage of drugs and disposal of sharps and otherpotentially dangerous equipment and substances.Liaise with nursing staff regularly to check on patient progress, or more frequently if their condition necessitates.To see patients at the request of nurses in charge and carry out examinations of patients.Supervisethe daily clinical management of all patients in conjunction with thenurse team leaders and attend all post-operative patients on day ofoperation and every day following.Conduct daily ward rounds in the hospital, and regular reviews of in-patients where necessary.Ensure patient management is in line with the set MOH, WHO and NACADA guidelines and protocols.Conduct special outpatient clinics in the hospital on the allocated days every week i.e. SOPC, GOPC, HRC, POPC, and MOPC.Attend to all medical legal cases, including filling of P3 forms and attend court sessions as required.Attend to sexual assault survivors on a timely basis in the GBV Support Centre.Monitorclosely the morbidity and mortality trends together with all the otherhealth indicators in the HMIS to ensure that prompt actions are taken.Minimum QualificationsBachelor of Medicine and Surgery from a recognized college/UniversityAt least two (2) years’ experience of working in a busy hospitalValid practising licence with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist BoardKey CompetenciesStrong communication skills: oral, written and presentation skills.Should be a team player and culturally sensitiveDemonstrated proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and utilization of the internet.Excellent report writing skills.Strong leadership, team building, conflict resolution and ability to deliver the Society’s strategic objectives.Previous work experience in a rehabilitation centre setting is an added advantageExtremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations.Abilityto maintains high level of confidentiality, remain open to new ideasand experiment with improved systems and proven methodsAbility to make consultative decisions, facilitate participative decision-making process and explain reasoning for decisionsDemonstratedproficiency in computer applications such as word processing,spreadsheets, database, email and utilization of the internet.Application ProcedureInterested candidates who meet the above qualifications should apply strictly through https://www.redcross.or.ke/Careers so as to reach us not later than so as to reach us not later than6th August 2021;Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.Jobdisclaimer and notification: Kenya Red Cross Society is an equalopportunity employer and does not charge / accept any amount or securitydeposit from job seekers during the selection process or while invitingcandidates for an interview.
