Job Description/RequirementsChemonics seeks a chief of party for an anticipated early gradereading project in Kenya. The purpose of the activity is to achieveimproved reading outcomes for pupils in grades 1 through 3 and supportKenyan student enrollment, attendance, and retention. We are looking forindividuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives ofpeople around the world and demonstrate leadership, versatility, andintegrity in their work. All candidates must possess a degree in arelevant field and English fluency is required. Experience in Kenya orEast Africa is preferred.The chief of party will serve as the primary point of contact withUSAID and will be ultimately responsible for the execution of allaspects of the project. This includes strategic planning, relationshipbuilding, stakeholder coordination, risk management, and collaborativelearning.Responsibilities include:Provide overall direction, oversight, and implementation ofactivities in compliance with USAID regulations and Chemonics policiesand proceduresServe as the primary liaison with USAID on strategic, managerial, and technical mattersIdentify issues and risks related to program implementation in atimely manner, suggest appropriate program adjustments, and offersolutions in a complex development environmentEnsure quality control and overall responsiveness of technicalassistance provided under the contract, including targeted results anddeliverablesRepresent Chemonics to USAID, host government counterparts, privatesector associations, civil society organizations, and other keystakeholdersLead efforts to collaborate and coordinate with other USAID projectsin county, local organizations, national and local government entities,and other key stakeholdersEnsure that relevant, productive, and complementary activities are coordinated and leveraged effectivelySupervise and provide guidance to senior technical staffOversee work planning, performance management, and strategic communicationsQualifications:Advanced degree in education, public policy, management andadministration, social science or related and relevant field; a focus oneducation policy, program/project management, curriculum and bilingualeducationMinimum ten years of experience of progressively responsibleexperience in senior program management implementing internationaldevelopment activities specifically in Education in AfricaProven experience as a COP or in a leadership position involving theadministration of similarly sized, international donor-supportedprograms with skills in strategic planning, management, supervision, andbudgeting is requiredDemonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrityDemonstrated ability to interact professionally with a wide range ofstakeholders (i.e., host government counterparts, local governments,private sector, NGOs, and other donors) to promote and leveragetechnical assistance effortsProficiency in written and spoken English requiredHow to applyApplication Instructions:Please send your CV and cover letter to the email addressKenyaRead@chemonics.onmicrosoft.com.
